As the winds and rain pummel coastal cities, people are beginning to prepare for the worst.
And many are taking precautions to protect themselves.
The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Harvey has made landfall in the Gulf of Mexico, which is located in the Caribbean Sea.
The hurricane has dumped more than 10 inches of rain on some areas, and the National Weather Service says a flash flood warning is in effect for parts of the Houston metro area.
The storm is packing more rainfall and more intense winds than Harvey has been producing in recent months, according to the NHC.
It’s still not clear how widespread the damage will be.
